If by some wild circumstance you lost your phone charger on, say, Thursday and just got to Best Buy for a new one, you might have missed the biggest game launch we’ve seen… maybe ever? Pokemon Go is a worldwide phenomenon and it dropped like a bomb at the end of last week. People all over the world are taking to the streets to hunt down pocket monsters, capture gyms, hatch eggs, and more. That is, when they can connect to the game’s notoriously flaky servers.

The thing that makes Pokemon Go so different from the previous titles in the series is that it requires you to hit the road to play. Monsters, gyms, and items are in real-world locations that players have to actually visit to interact with. We’ve already heard reports of “gym leaders” camping out at bus stops and other spots to watch other players challenge their high-level Pokemon. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg, as you’ll soon see.

Let’s run down some of the most insane events that happened in the Pokeverse since launch.

Girl Finds Dead Body

Playing Pokemon Go can definitely lead you off the beaten path as you hunt down critters to do battle. But for Wyoming teenager Shayla Wiggins, it pulled her right intoStand By Me. While walking along the Big Wind River looking for a PokeStop she could see on the map, she hopped a fence and came face-to-face with a dead body. Naturally, she freaked out and called the police, who investigated and concluded that it was most likely an accidental drowning. Guess he was vulnerable to Water types.

Armed Robbers Jack Pokemon Trainers

The places of interest in Pokemon Go are scattered in a variety of locations – churches, parks, et cetera – but not all of those locations are particularly pleasant. That’s what inspired a group of cheeky thugs in O’Fallon, Missouri to grab their guns and go roll some geeks. According to Gizmodo, three men were arrested for a string of armed robberies at PokeStops over the last few days. The crooks would roll up in a black BMW when they saw people distracted on their phones, hop out, and jack them for their cash and valuables. Cops tracked down the real-life Team Rocket and took them into custody on Sunday.

Pokemon Go Rant Gets Man Fired

There’s a lot of frustration surrounding Pokemon Go – most notably, that it hasn’t been rolled out to the entire world. When a man named Sonny Truyen moved from Australia (where the game has launched) to Singapore (where it hasn’t), he didn’t take it well.Mashable reports that Truyen, incensed at his inability to catch ’em all in his new country, posted a Facebook rant that read, in part, “You can’t f*cking catch pokemon in this piece of f*cking shit country.” It wasn’t long before proud Singaporeans tracked his employer down and got him fired for besmirching their beautiful – if admittedly Pokemon-free – nation.

Trainers Troll The Westboro Baptist Church

Because Pokemon Go locations are attached to real-world places, it creates the opportunity for some clever trolling. Notorious anti-gay organization the Westboro Baptist Church’s headquarters in Topeka, Kansas happens to be the home of a Pokemon gym, and local players are messing with them in the funniest way possible. The trainer who took the gym did it with a high-level Clefairy (get it) named “LoveIsLove.” Apparently the Church is trying to fight back by raising a Jigglypuff to take back their home, which is one of the most ridiculous sentences I’ve ever written on this site.

Man Catches Pidgey As Wife Gives Birth

We already showed you a bunch of ridiculous places to catch Pokemon, but this is ridiculous. Redditor Jonathan Theriot was playing the game while his wife was in labor, which already seems dangerous, and managed to catch a flying-type Pidgey on Thursday right before she was wheeled in for her C-section. Amazingly enough, she didn’t divorce him over it and shortly gave birth to a beautiful baby girl who they didn’t name Misty.

People Are Getting Hurt

Distracted cell phone usage is already a danger, but the attention that Pokemon Gorequires is resulting in all kinds of bumps and bruises. Several state safety agencies are issuing warnings against driving while playing the game, but walking isn’t any safer. The Daily News has an article on a few people who have hurt themselves playing, including a guy in New York who was playing while he was skateboarding and hit a crack in the sidewalk, bailing hard, and cutting his hand open. Another Redditor walked straight into a ditch and fractured his fifth metatarsal in his foot.

Pokemon Go Malware Released

It’s a given that any successful software platform is going to have its share of sketchy cash-ins. Amazingly, just days after its launch, there’s already malware targetingPokemon Go players. Because the game’s not officially released worldwide, not everybody can get it. Enterprising hackers have released “sideload” versions that you can put on your Android phone in advance. Don’t fall for it, though. Security researchers have found that at least one version has been modified to include the remote access tool DroidJack, which gives other people full control over your mobile phone to do whatever shady business they so choose.

None of this insanity seems to have affected Nintendo, though – since the release of the app, their stock is skyrocketing. Market estimates indicate that Pokemon Go has added $7.5 billion to the company’s valuation. Of course, that’s probably not a permanent increase, but you can’t help but think they’re pretty happy about the whole situation. It’s Pokemon Go’s world now. We’re all just living in it.
